How to Prepare Mentally for Your First MMA Fight

Keeping Occupied With Other Things Not Related
Preparing yourself physically for your first MMA fight is very exhausting. Sometimes just as cumbersome and overbearing is the mental stress. Thinking about your fight 24/7 can cause anxiety and doubt. Think about it enough and you can feel yourself going crazy. If you catch yourself doing this, you must put a stop to it. Instead of replaying over and over again all the possible scenarios in your head all day, you should only think about your fight during specific allotted times. You should definitely be focusing on your fight
during training hours and no more than 1 hr. when you are not training. Take this time to reflect and evaluate your training from earlier that day. Outside of these allotted times, you should keep yourself occupied with things unrelated to
your fight. Doing nothing will just cause your mind to start thinking about your upcoming fight.
Do Not Make It Bigger Than What It Is
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that it is just a sport. Do not make it bigger than what it is. If the worst case scenario happens, the world
will not end. You are not going to war, you are not fighting for your life. At the end of it all, it's a sport meant to entertain the crowd.
Be Fight Ready
Being fight ready is the best way to be mentally prepare. If you did all your homework, put the hard work in, and did everything you can to be prepared for your fight, you will be confident on fight day. You will know you are ready and know you did everything you could to prepare for fight time. If you have not trained properly then you will have doubt in yourself and question if you are ready when the moment comes.
Having a Good Game Plan
With the help of your coach(es), you should have a good solid game plan. A plan that will put the fight into areas of your strength and weakness of your opponent. Going into a fight with the idea of just winning may sometimes leave you baffled and running a million scenerios on how to go about winning the fight. But having a game plan will simplify your goal and make your end goal much more accessible.
Work Up a Sweat
Whenever I get a bad case of the nerves, i find that working up a sweat magically removes my doubts and nerves. It is a fact that during exercise, endorphins are released. Endorphins are chemicals in your body that elevate your mood.
